  • Advanced Couple Therapy International Summer School - An opportunity for qualified couple-trained therapists to explore theory and techniques in couple therapy.

Our summer school programmes are taught in Central London and are popular with professionals living in the UK as well as international students from countries across the globe, including Australia, USA, and France and beyond.

Introduction to Couple Therapy Summer School

Course code: PC1B

A 6-day Summer School which is designed for people with little or no experience of working with clients who want to train as couple therapist. On Tavistock Relationships’ Introduction to Couple Therapy course students will explore a range of themes in relation to the couple and the relationship. The course is specifically designed to provide participants with the opportunity of learning more about couple’s work, the special character of the marital/couple focus and the theory underpinning this approach. In addition, the training can improve personal and professional relationships through developing greater self-awareness and an enhanced understanding of the dynamics inherent in any family or social group.

By the end of the course students will have formed a basic understanding of working therapeutically with couples to enable them to apply for a place on one of our masters programmes. Please note: students completing the 2017 Summer Schools will have the opportunity to apply for our Masters' Programmes in the same year, courtesy of a special extended application deadline.

The course will:

  • Introduce marital and couple counselling theories with special emphasis on the psychodynamic approach
  • Offer a framework for understanding conscious and unconscious communication in couples that is grounded in theory, clinical case examples and seminar discussion
  • Introduce the range of skills that are used in couple work, with a chance to practice these in role plays
  • Enable you to develop self-reflective skills by participating in experiential groups
