Couple Therapy for Depression Training now open to all therapists working with couples.
Tavistock Relationships, internationally renowned training and research institute for the treatment of couple/relationship distress, is widening access to its training for Couple Therapy for Depression, an integrated, NICE-approved, evidence-based model for the treatment of depression where relationship distress it is seen as having a causal or maintaining factor in the illness or where the relationship is seen as a resource for recovery.
After being approached in 2009 by NICE to develop, along with an expert reference group, an evidence-based, integrated couple model for the treatment of depression, Tavistock Relationships has successfully trained over 400 NHS workers to date across the UK.
This training aims to develop clinicians’ skills and abilities in working with relational factors in the context of depression in order to enable couples to use their relationship as a resource to cope better with depression. Previously this training was only open to IAPT staff in an NHS setting but Tavistock Relationships now recognises this way of working can be applied in wider settings so now, for the first time, in November it is open to all clinicians who have experience of working with couples.
Completion of this training could also be a useful tool for therapists and counsellors who aim to be employed within an NHS IAPT service in the future, as this accreditation as a Couple Therapy for Depression practitioner would see them attain an IAPT-recognised training. This training is also for clinicians interested in developing skills in this area.
