The Effectiveness of Couple Therapy
Our study shows improvments in relationships and mental health

The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships welcomes the announcement by the Government today to double the amount of funding available for relationship support over this Parliament. This increase, which TCCR has long called for, is more recognition that relationships matter. It highlights both the positive impact which training frontline practitioners to identify and support those experiencing relationship distress can have on the lives and life chances of adults, as well as their children; and how effective couple counselling can be for couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship.

Susanna Abse, Chief Executive of the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships, said of the announcement: ‘The increase in funding announced today will have a direct effect on all aspects of children’s lives, including their mental health. We welcome this boost in funding which represents an important step forward in helping to support and strengthen families, and in ensuring that many more children will have the chance to benefit from growing up in the context of a well-functioning parental relationship’.
